Leading Australian Retailer AGL Selects Sunverge for Residential Energy Storage Program

SAN FRANCISCO (November 4, 2015) – Leading Australian energy retailer AGL Energy Limited (AGL) will offer Sunverge Energy’s intelligent energy storage systems to its customers, in an effort to provide reliable backup power and bill savings to the growing number of customers who own rooftop solar installations. The Sunverge systems will be a key component in the utility’s broader demand response program, supporting the utility’s strategy to empower consumers to better control how they generate and use energy.

AGL’s Sunverge systems comprise 11.6 or 19.4 KWh energy storage system options, along with sophisticated power electronics and multiple energy inputs, packaged in a patented utility-grade appliance controlled by cloud-based software. The system enables a homeowner to store energy generated by rooftop solar and deliver that power at precisely the right time to meet the home’s energy needs and help lower bills. These smart renewable energy systems offer a wide range of crucial benefits to homeowners, including lowering consumer energy bills, improving reliability, and providing more control.

AGL’s Executive General Manager New Energy, Marc England, said “Since being the first major energy retailer to launch a battery in the Australian market earlier this year, we have seen growing consumer interest in energy storage devices. Residents are becoming more proactive in their home energy management. Energy storage gives our customers more control and flexibility in deciding the optimal time to use the stored energy which can help reduce their energy costs.”

The Sunverge systems, which are priced between AUD$14,990 and AUD$19,990 fully installed by AGL, are available immediately to customers in the Australian states of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

“AGL is at the forefront of the energy industry transformation,” said Ken Munson, co-founder and CEO of Sunverge Energy. “Not only were they one of the first energy companies to develop renewable energy programs that enrich their customer experience, they created a business unit solely focused on maximizing the value of distributed resources. And they did this with an eye toward increasing customer, employee and shareholder value. We’re honoured to play a role in AGL’s innovative energy vision.”
